About Me
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I received my graduate degree from the University of New England in Maine. I have been providing individual, group and family therapy for a number of years and enjoy helping individuals achieve the life that they desire. I have had the opportunity to work with people residing in homeless shelters in the state of Maine to traumatized veterans in Arkansas and adolescents in rural communities through out the United States. After a few years working with in the rural parts of Arkansas, I had the wonderful opportunity to work in a private practice with a compassionate psychiatrist Dr. Shamshad Haroon MD. This provided me with the knowledge of and usefulness of medications and when they are managed correctly both psychotherapy and medication compliment and quicken the healing process. I have been using Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) since graduate school, I am basic trained & I have completed additional training's on dissociate disorders and complex PTSD, I am also in the process of becoming a certified EMDR clinician. I have a strong passion for and advocate the use of EMDR, bechause I have witnessed the impact it has on peoples lives. I am also a member of EMDRIA which is EMDR's International Association this provides me with the comfort that I am helping on a small degree to further EMDR's impact on a global level. Because of my experience, I have found life coaching is a wonderful aspect of my practice and it has brought long term change for the people I have served.
The Process of Therapy
Honestly, I want to help you and I will work very hard at establishing a trusting, safe relationship. The best way for us to move you forward emotionally is for you to be honest in regards to what is occurring with you emotionally, mentally and physically. Because we deal with difficult topics, the desire to quit may arise, if this occurs please be open and discuss this with me. That way we can refer you to another competent professional if necessary. I have experience using a number of different therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing & Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). But the therapeutic intervention which I use most often is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), this therapeutic approach has been used over the last 27 years and seems to shorten the duration of time needed in psychotherapy.
Decision Making
The decisions you make concerning the course of your life (e.g. behavior changes, marital status, medications under the direction of a physician) are your responsibility. I do not view my responsibility as telling you what you should do. Rather, we can talk about different possibilities and explore their potential consequences so that you can make the decision that is right for you. In addition, you have the full right to make decisions regarding the therapy process, including requesting changes in what we do in therapy, ending therapy, or requesting a referral to another therapist. I want to be a resource that helps you in achieving the life you want!
